Sony announces NEX-5T and A3000 mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras

Sony has announced two new mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, one each in their NEX and Alpha series of cameras. The NEX-5T is the successor to the NEX-5R launched last year. It’s mostly similar but adds some new features such as NFC.

As you can imagine, the NFC allows you to instantly pair the camera with your Android smartphone and transfer images over Wi-Fi using Sony’s PlayMemories Camera app, which is also available on iOS. Other than that the NEX-5T has a 16.1 megapixel APS HD CMOS sensor with 99-point Fast Hybrid auto focus system that combines phase detection and contrast detection autofocus methods for quick and reliable focussing.
The NEX-5T will be sold with Sony’s SELP1650 16-50mm power zoom lens for $700 and without the lens for $550 starting September in black, white and silver.
The A3000 is the newest member of the Alpha series but despite its resemblance to other Alpha cameras it does not have a mirror assembly and is more similar to the NEX cameras on the inside. The A3000 has a large, DSLR-like body with ample grip and a 20.1 megapixel APS HD CMOS sensor with E-mount for Sony’s lenses. The camera is also capable of shooting 1080i60 or 1080p24 videos.
The A3000 has a traditional mode select dial, built-in flash, 3.0-inch LCD and a hotshoe for accessories such as external flash and microphone.
The A3000 will go on sale in September for $400 with 18-55mm zoom kit lens.
